For each group (even those you're not a member of) there's an option to Add to Favorites, which enables a quick selection of those groups at the start of the Groups page. This is meant to allow a quick access to your preferred groups, without the requirement to bookmark its URL or use the search form.
Similarly, you can Remove Favorite to not display the group at the My Favorites space.
